Reflections
Due to this Honors Thesis, I have gained a deeper appreciation and knowledge of the people who are dedicated to making outdoors culture more just and inclusive. It is clear that there is no one solution to these issues. That would be impossible. Many of these efforts reflect local environments and the values and identities of the people within different communities. In addition to self-reflective growth and building personal connections, I learned technical skills and a sense of the kind of work I would like to pursue someday.
My hope for Hearing Diverse Voices is that people will listen to the interviewees and reflect on the themes and experiences people shared. I also hope that the website’s visitors use the links to the organizations to learn more about the work that people do to make a just outdoors culture. My Honors Thesis gives a platform to only a few of the voices, experiences, and contributions of the larger movement to make an inclusive outdoors environment. I encourage people who engage the website to use it as a starting point to continue learning. I hope website visitors become motivated to participate in allyship with the people and communities who are committed to this work.
