Richard Stopol

Appointed to his position in 1989, Richard is responsible for fundraising, program planning, and the overall leadership of NYC Outward Bound Schools. He previously served as a program director at the Fund for the City of New York, specializing in issues affecting children and youth. An attorney, Richard earned a JD from New York University’s School of Law. He graduated summa cum laude from the State University of New York at Buffalo and is the author of Education the Outward Bound Way.

Richard grew up in Brooklyn, New York, where he had limited exposure to the outdoors. As an adult, he discovered a love of hiking and he and his wife Carolyn now spend many of their weekends and vacations on hikes that allow them to explore and enjoy nature.
